From The Age EG Melbourne, July 10, 1998
It was said of the best blues musicians that their greatness was'nt in the notes they played, but in the aching silence of the ones they left out. Mark Hollis isn't a bluesman, but his first solo record is as much about the spaces between them as the notes themselves. The former frontman of '80s drama-rock band Talk Talk has distilled his music to all acoustic- indeed, almost anti techno - essences. Throughout the nine tracks, Hollis's voice is incredibly evocative, singing strong and clear, then dropping into a whisper. This is a quirky, moody and thought-provoking record, yet thoroughly enjoyable. Dig the silence.
