Jack Mavrogordato is elected first president of the IAF.
In May, the CIC admitted IAF as a member.
Jack Mavrogordato attends the Conference of the European Section of ICBP, where falconry was the target of severe attacks.
The 15th World Conference of the ICBP, Texel (Holland) was attended by Jack Mavrogordato.
IAF has been admitted as the representative of falconry at the ICBP conferences.
Jack Mavrogordato attends the 10th Conference of the European Continental Section of ICBP in Rumania. For the first time, IAF was accorded a separate status amongst the other international organistations, like WWF, UNESCO, etc... A resolution was adopted concerning trade in birds of prey, full prohibition is requested except for "approved purposes".
In October, Count Otto Abenperg-Traun is elected IAF president.
At Its general meeting in Petronell (Austria), IAF adopted a resolution on falconry and conservation of birds of prey, laying down the principles of bird of prey protection and the practice of falconry.
Anthony Jack attends the XVI ICBP World Congress in Canberra (Australia). ICBP accepts to send a text to the national sections encouraging them to collaborate with hunting and falconry organisations.
Count Abensperg-Traun represents falconry at the 21st general meeting of CIC in Teheran. A resolution on falconry is adopted and is sent to all governments.
In October, ICBP helds its First World Conference on Birds of Pre, in Vienna. IAF was one of the sponsors of the conference. Anthony Jack and Robert Kenward attended and addressed the assembly. IAF proposed a resolution on falconry and helped drafting another one, both were adopted. These historical resolutions have saved the life of falconry!
Toni Lutz is elected president.
Anthony Jack represents IAF at the Conference of European Continental Section of IAF at Radolfzell (W.Germany), he cooperated in the discussion about resolutions on tarde in wildlife.
IAF together with the British Falconers' Club hold a three days conference in Oxford under the title "Bird of Prey Management Techniques" organised by Robert Kenward. It has been a great success.
Anthony Jack took the initiative to alert the falconry clubs of the EEC member of the IAF about a proposal for a EEC Directive on bird protection. If adopted as such, this text would have meant (unwantonly) the end of falconry, thanks to our interventions, falconry is clearly allowed in the EEC Directive 79/409. Once more, falconry was saved!

Pierre Basset represents IAF at the CIC general meeting in Sofia, the decision is taken to create a CIC working group on falconry.

C. de Coune represents the IAF at the Raptor Research Foundation Conference in Sacramento (USA), the biggest raptor conference ever held. A resolution has been adopted recognising the positive role of falconers in bird of prey conservation. RRF decides to draft a falconry position statement. IAF genenral meeting in Woodhall Spa (GB), a recommendation is adopted on the compulsory ringing of falconry birds.
CIC working group on falconry meets in Steyr (Austria), a guideline for legislations on falconry and hawk keeping and a recommendation to the governments on falconry and taking birds of prey from the wild has been worked out.
IAF general meeting in Hambach (W. Germany), a recommendation is adopted asking that surplus of captive bred birds be given to reintroduction projects; a recommendation to the Danish Government to adopt a favourable attitude towards falconry.
IAF admitted as an observer in the Standing Committee of the Bern Convention at the Council of Europe.
R. Kenward represents IAF at the meeting of the Raptor Research Foundation in Gainesville (USA) where a falconry position statement is worked out.

The IAF holds its XXth Anniversary general meeting in Stadtlohn (Germany). The Alaska Falconers' Association is admitted as a member of the IAF. A resolution is adopted on marking techniques for falconry birds. A recommendation is sent to the Mexican Government about illegal trade in birds of prey.

Following associations are admitted as member of the IAF: Hawking Club of Hyderabad (India), Associacao Portuguesa de Falcoaria (Portugal), Georgian Section of Falconry (Republic of Georgia), Czech Falconers' Club (Czechosovakia).
A campaign of support of falconry in Denmark is set up.
