**** In swedish. A popular description written by a non-falconer. The description of the ornithology and practical details in falconry are therefore very superficial. Numerous fine historical references and a few references to myths and other historical source-material. There's a few informations about the history of falconry in Sweden. Jakob E. Borch

'The art of hunting with raptors'. The title, being a translation of 'De Arte Venandi...', indicates that it is a tutorial. It is not. It is a rather dull written popular introduction to falconry and has only a very short chapter on the training of raptors. The commonest scandinavian species are introduced and the history of falconry in Denmark reviewed. In describing the most recent history it is regrettable that the existence of 'The Danish Hawking Club' (Dansk Falkejagt Klub) is completely ignored and certain facts are controversially interpreted. The colour photographs and illustrations are exceptional and together with the historical details on falconry in the 1960-70's, and the fact that this is the first book on falconry published in Denmark in more than 45 years, makes it worth reading. In danish. Jakob E. Borch
**** This is a classic! It is a fine introduction to the history of falconry - in England, to the principles of training longwings and to understand what falconry is all about. Contain some exceptional shots of grousehawking in Scotland. Featuring the acknowledged falconers: Jack Mavrogordato, Roger Upton, Stephen Frank and James Robertson-Justice. It's old but don't miss it. I use it for promotion when giving lectures about falconry. Jakob Borch
