The harbor is the place for a rest, and an icecrem
There is an embankment in the harbor that dam the water up to a waterfall. The waterfall produce power for the paper factory on the other side of the bridge. (it is the red building to right, in the back ground.) The paper factory was founded by Michael Drewsen in 1844.

Hjejlen the oldest working steamboat in the world. It was build in 1861 and has always sailed on the lake and river in Silkeborg.  Every summer the Hjejlen sails from Silkeborg to the Himmelbjerget  with tourists. The most famous tourist that went on the boat was H.C. Andersen, who was a dear friend of  the Drewsen family. H.C. Andersen got inspired to write the fairy tale Ib and little Christine during a stay in Silkeborg.

The office of the Hjejle society was build in 1911.
To day it is an kiosk where you can buy icecreams.

You don't have to boarder Hjejlen in Silkeborg you can go on board from the Hattenaes port.
Hjejlen is named by a bird that lives by the lakes around Silkeborg.

There is five other boats sailing  in between Silkeborg, and  Himmelbjerget.

Himmelbjerget (The Sky Mountain) is actually not a mountain, it is just a big hill. On the top of the hill is a conning tower.
You can see the lakes from the Himmelbjerg, and on a clear day you can see Silkeborg.
The Himmelbjerg is used for picnics and  celebration of the Danish constitution. Denmark has one of the oldest democratic constitutions in the world.
Let's take Hjejlen back to Silkeborg and go to the museum!
