Ruffus is one of 12 puppets born on the 5th May, 1990. The breed counts several Danish and German champions. Ruffus is the first International Champion of Danish breed in 20 years. The earlier was his grandfather Lillemarks Kobuch. He is trained as a police dog in the The Danish Police dog Association. He is a father too. One of his puppets became BIR3 at a Danish dog show in 1997. I was allowed to have a dog, but only a dog that did not shed its hairs. However, not many dogs of that kind exist. We went to the Danish Kennel Clubs exhibitions and I "fell in love" with the Giant Schnauzer at once. His name was Kobuch. He was an international champion - one of the few, i.e. he also had a working class test and therefore, among other things, I just had to have a dog after him. I waited for several years, before Bodil from the Kennel Klondaike phone me to hear whether I was still interested. When Buster was old enough to train utility word I chose the Doberman Club, because it had many Giant Schnauzers at that time. Unfortunately we did not even get as far as the working class test. Buster had to be put down because he was seriously ill after a fall. Another couple of years went by before puppies from the Kobuch line were available. By hook or by crook I wanted to prove wrong that gradually the Giant Schnauzer had been reduced to at pet dog and therefor I also wanted to look for useful qualities. Ruffus must have done the same, because every time I came to visit Bodil, he was the first of 12 puppies, which ran towards me to bite my laces, trouser leg etc. - to this time the dog chose. As to training the choice fell on the Danish Police dog Association (PH) because I remember much too well Buster's expression, when in a wood I gave the command to search for a thing or man and with an oblique glance he let me know that I had probably forgotten to put up some shields. The Giant Schnauzer is supposed to be a majestic, watchful, reserved, incorruptible, loyal an well-balanced dog. That it is also very independent and strong-willed dog, which makes it a daily challenge requiring much patience, is proved by Ruffus, who is able to pass an obedience test (LP1) with 98 out of 100 possible points one week and the other he cannot get enough points to pass the obedience part of the Police dog test. Since then it has turned out that Ruffus was the next Giant Schnauzer to become the next international champion in Denmark. So also my choice of kennel was wise. All things considered the Giant Schnauzer is a wonderful dog and if you have patience enough to wait for three or four years it is a dog that throws itself into a task with great zeal - if it finds them fun. The dog that constantly tries to change the phrase "like master - so dog" into "like dog - so master". Ruffus's companion, Steen Karlsson
