ELECTRIC-MODEL-FLIGHT

I started to fly RC-planes, because one of my frinds, who fly IC powered models, told me that model boats only was for children and very old men !!
I had to prove to him, that a model boat captain also can fly, therfore I teached myself to fly the RC-planes........but then I last my heart to the electric powered planes!!!

The first start..

My model boat and plane building started for many, many years ago.

The picture show one of my diesel powered control line planes. The plane is a Aristrokrat from the DMI company

I still keep the plane in my hobby room hanging from the ceiling…

Corsair, Me-109 and Spitfire

The Me109 is a kit from Graupner, this plane was planned for a S400 and 8 pcs. AR500 cells. but do these days' fly with a LRK 228/15 and 3S LiPo cells.
This power setup make the plane fly with a very high speed in more than 10 min.

The Corsair and Spitfire is build from a drawings from the EFI magazine.

These two planes was also planned for S400 and AR500 cells, today the planes is powered by a LRK - motors
The days where a S400 with AR500 battery was good is definitely gone the burned motors and maximum 2 min of flying time was not that fun....

My Corsair (the small one) together with a 1:4 scale IC-powered Corsair (belonging to a member in our club).
My Corsair is painted in the same colour as the big IC-powered one........that make my Corsair to a 1:4 scale model of that one.

My 15 year old dauther with the Spitfire.

The Spitfire is one of the most beautiful planes, ever flown!

B17

B-17 has always been my favourite plane, this one is build in white form, cowered with brown paper. The plane have a wingspan at 2 m. 3 wheel retracts, powered by 4 pcs. S-400 7,2v with gearbox and 10 cells.
The test flying was done without paint: Everthing was OK. The plane was then painted in the collour of the "Knock out dropper".

The small planes are all powered by LRK motors, The Spitfire, Me109 and Corsair mentioned above, and a Harvard

El a' stik and El a' big

El a' stik was my first plane, I teached myself to fly with that one (rebuild several times!).
I have tested different motors in the plane, from a direct S600 with 8 cells to a S-600 with gearbox and 10-11 cells. I remember a fun one: A S600 race with 10:1 gearbox, 9 cell and a 16x16 APC prop - flying was OK, but the prop was to big for landing...
Today El a' stik is flying with a LRK 345/15-11, 9 cells and a 10x7 APC-E prop.

El a' Big is a El a' stik enlarged 2 times. The wingspan is 2.4 m. The plane was powered by a S-900, 3:1 gearbox, 30 pcs. CR3000 cells and a 22x8 prop, the weight is 7.5 kg.

El a' big is able to fly very slowly, and flying time can be more than 15 min.
The plane have been used for the testing of my homebuild onboard datalogger (you can find a link to the datalogger page on my link page), recording: Speed, hight, rev/min, power consumption, voltage, temperature (battery or motor) and used power. From that I know that the plane ROG at 45 Km/H and is able to stay in level flight with a power consumption less than 100 W !

The Speed 900 are worn out. The new motor is this Ultra 2000, the same gearbox as used with the S-900, but another gear ratio.

But sometimes things go wrong, I chrashed El a' Big on a fine day, but I was lucky, and the plane was ready to again fly after a few hours work.

Two different, but very fine planes: DO228 and Emil

Emil is build from a drawing from the german magazine, Elektro Modell, wingspan: 1.8m powered by a LRK 345/25, Jeti controller, 17x12 prop, 16 pcs. CR3000 cells.
Emil is a super plane, it can make a lot of fun in the air, or just fly very slowly for a very, very long time. When I do that it flies up to 30 min. on the old CR3000 cells.

The 16 pcs. CR3000 cells is heavy, they have the same weight as 3 pcs. 5S 5000 mA LIPO packs, with total 15.000 mA, I will have to test the plane on a battery pack like that, flying times over 2 hours is then realistic.
Today the battery is changed to a KOKAN 5S 5000 mA LIPO battery.

The DO228 is a semiscale model, build from a enlarged drawing from the german FMT-magazine (the original drawing was planned for two S400 with gearbox)
The fuselage is build in white form, the wing is normal balsa ribs covered with oracover. Wingspan on my enlaged model is 1,85m, power is 2 pcs. LRK 345/20/14 each running on a SpeedyBL controller and 10 pcs. GP3300 cells (now changet to a 3S Kokam 5000 LIPO pack) and a APC-E 12x10 prop.

The DO228 take off and pass by. This plane is a very stable plane, a very good flyer, in all weather conditions.

The plane have had more than 250 hours in the air. (From the datalogger I know that the average speed is 80 km/H, 250 hours of flying time is them more tham 20000 Km flying distance !)
Two sets of S600 are worn up (and some are burned !). The 2 pcs. LRK that today power the plane, make the plane even better than before.

The LRK motor is very effective, that make the DO228 able to fly up to more than 20 min with these motors and the new LIPO battery - the longets trip with the old S600 motor was 8 min.

The last pic show the DO228 when it was his by 2 pcs flying wings (TORO 300) at the same time, only minor damage to all planes.
Some of these picture's are taken by my friend Flemming.

Horten V

Horten V is a flying wing, build from a drawing from the English magazine, Electric Flight International, wingspan is 1,2m, power 2 pcs. S-400 6v and 7 RC2000 cells.
I start the wing with a bungee and when the plane is in the air it's a super flyer.

Me262 and FW190

The Me262 are built from a drawing form the german super-magazine, Elektro Modell, powered by 2 pcs. S480BB race and WeMoTec mini 480 fan, 8 pcs. RC2000 cells.

The colour is scale: "Red 13" Me262A-1a (Wk-No. 110559) 3/EJG 2, Lechfeld, flown by Heinz Bar, match 1945.

The Fw 190 is a kit from Balsacraft (a compagny that unfortunately now are closed), a easy to build kit, and a very good flyer. The power is a LRK 345/15, APC-E 10x7 and 10 GP3300 cells.

Colour is scale: "Red 13" (no. 410266) flown by Leutnant Erich Hondt, Staffelkapitän 2./JG11, Husum, October 1943. The plane was shot down on 8. October 1943.

Seahawk

This plane is build from a drawing from the Danish magazine: Modelflyvenyt The plane fly with everything from a direct S600 with 7 cells and up.
I have used a S600 direct drive, S600 with gearbox, a ULTRA 900 (an old "M" version) with gearbox, 11x10 prop, and 11 pcs. SCR1000 cells.
The ULTRA did make the plane go vertical

Today the plane is powered by a LRK 345/20-11 - The Ultra was powerfull, but this one is horrifying. The plane go vertical, with a speed that high, that the plane disappear in the sky very very fast......this plane is a good motortester, next motor ???

The name on my plane is of cause: El a' fun

Piber

This is one of the super CNC kit from Höllein (look for the link to Höllein at my link page)

Wingspan is 1 m. weight app. 600 g. The plane is made for a S400 and could fly more than 20 min. on 7 pcs. KR1100AE.
Today the plane is powered by a LRK 295/5 (60g) and 2S2P LiPo 1100 mA cells ....I don´t know how lang time it will fly on this setup... I use the flying time for trip no. 2...and 3...and... ... A super plane for the fine days.

Tiger Moth

Tiger Moth again one of the fantastic kits from Höllein. The wood is that fine that you nearly don't need glue, just put the things together !!

These kit (Piber and Tiger Moth) are the best kit's ever made!

The plane is covered with light scale-white oracover, the motor is a LRK 295/5, 2S3P LiPo 1100 mA, APC-E 9x4.5 prop, This is super.... and with a flying time as long as I want !

Alpha jet.

Höllein has done it again ! This is a profile kit for a MINI FAN.

I use a Plettenberg HP200/25/5, 4S KOKAM 2400 LIPO.
This is super, the kit, the sound, the preformance, everything!

This plane is a must for all fan lovers !!

The Plettenberg went to slow, therfore it's changed to a brushless B28-56, with 4300 rev/V, power consumption = 70 A. That make the Alpha jet to a rocket.

Microbe.

My youngest daughter hold The Microbe also a kit from Höllein, for a S400

I use a LRK 228/15, APC slow fly prop 9x3.8 prop and 2S2P LiPo 1100mA cells, I then get a loooooong exciting flying time. A fine plane.

Microbipe

The Microbipe is a small biplane, build from a kit from Höllein. The plane is powered by a S400 with gearbox and 8 pcs. AR500. The kit is super, very easy to build, but this plane is not that easy to fly,
I have tryed several times, but I have not had any succes yet !

If you can fly this plane please send me a E-mail, and help me...

Paddle

Paddle A strange plane, but a good flyer ! - once again one of the kits from Höllein.

The plane is covered with light oracover, the motor is a LRK 228/10, 2S2P LiPo 1100 mA, APC-E 8x3,4 slowfly prop. Total weight: 370 gram

Loop

The loop is a kit from Graupner, An easy to build and fun to fly plane. I use a LRK 228/15 in this this plane, APC-E 9x6, 3S2P LiPo 1100 mA Cells. I can then fly more than 20 min, with a lot of power also for vertical flying !

Twin Star

The Twin Star is a form kit from Multiplex - I don't like the form kits, but in our club we have a lot of fun flying in formation together with 3 - 5 Twin Star. Thats fun !

My Twin Star have 2 pcs. LRK 228-15, seperate regulators and 2 packs 3S3P 1100 ma LIPO cells. It's painted in the same colour as the DO228

Cessna 182 Skyline

A RTF plane bought from Staufenbiel at Intermodellbau.
The pane is built for a 40 glow motor, build in China by China Model Production, look here: CMP they make a lot of fine models.

My plane is electric powered, LRK, 5S LIPO 13x8 APC-E prop - making a very good performance. The plane is very good looking. I look forward to test the planes preformence in the air very soon.....more to come on that.

Monsun

Monsun A ARF plane from Graupner, made for a S400 motor.

Of cause mine is powered by a LRK (228/15) and LiPo cells.
A good looking plane, but the ARF principle is not me, there is a lot of things I would have done different in a plane like this, I like to build from the beginning.

Twinjet

My Twinjet is obvious in danish colour. I have used the std. S400 Motors on 8 pcs. RC2000 cells. The sound from the plane was super, particular in a vertical dive - but the speed was not that good !!

Therfore I have changed to S480 and 10 cells, this was better, but the speed was still only good in a vertical dive... I certainly need some more power !!!?

..now I know, I will change the plane to one motor, a LRK 345/20, 11 cells, APC-E 10x7 or 8 .....close to 700W - that will help !

Fjergfis

The Fjergfis is a combat plane. Easy to make and fun to fly.
The plane is made from white form. The members in our club work together and make the planes, 2-3 people can easily make 20-30 planes in one evening
We fly 8-10 planes at once, the target is to hit the other planes and kill them (that’s not that easy !!!!).
We only have one rule: The last plane in the air is the winner. Therefore some of the planes have carbonfibre, wood or metal in the front of the wing, when they hit, they cut the other plane in 2 pcs.

We used S400 7,2v, Günther prop, 8 pcs. KR 1400AE. That gave us 10 min. combat time.....Today we use 3S LiPo cells giving flying times longer than 20 min.

The "Gearfis" had a S400 6v with gearbox as power (same flying time as the direct drive 7,2V, but more power) - but the gearbox was spoil in a good combat, therfore I today again use the S400 7,2v without gearbox.....next motor.... of cause a LRK...

This is fun !!

After 2 - 3 hours work, fjergfis for the nexts days combat

Winter flying

When it's cold outside we are still flying here in Denmark, look here to se (the page have Danish text): Winter flying.

The next plane.....the kits that I have in stock ??

Bearcat One of the fine kit from Balsacraft.(the company are unfortunately closed today)
I expect to power the plane with a homemade LRK 345/15 brushless motor and LiPo cells... maybe ..?

X-400 A kit made by AFR, sold by PAF in Germany. Planned for a S400, I will use a fast running LRK and LiPo cells….maybe..?

....NO !! the next plane will not be a kit: The next plane are homemade: Drawings, Motors, Controllers and built in balsa..... take a look: pictures of my next plane.
