9700 Pro overclocking results

Partly to get an idea on how to get the most of my own ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and partly due to overall interest in all things overclocking I have set out to gather peoples overclocking results of the 9700 Pro. So I started a thread in in alt.comp....ati and much to my surprise got 0 results - I was kind of thinking other 9700 Pro owners would be interested in some statistics.

I've been busy since that first attempt but the other day I posted again this time in the Rage3D forum which got me a few results but onfortunately I posted in the wrong section. Down below are to results collected so far in a very primitive layout but if more results come in I'll make it better. - do feel free to post me scores but please include as much info as possible

Here's the results I have been given so far

Comments OC actually worsens with vmod Haven't tried any higher With case fan turned to loud With case fan on low speed

So far average clock is Core 373 Mhz and Memory 340 Mhz

As can be seen overall cooling of the case seems more important than the method used for the cooling the card itself but drawing any conclusions is a stretch.

Alternate way to issolate vibration from hard drives

I've tried hanging my disks in rubber bands of different sorts and also used the No-Vibes frames on some machines at work, the first method is cheap but rubber bands doesn't last forever and the No Vibes frams are expensive plus both solutions makes it cumbersome to replace a drive.

So instead I have come up with a solution which uses L-profiles and foam. Basicly I bought a metere of an 15 mm L-shaped alu profile cut it in lenghts of about a hard drive and drilled some screw holes in it plus then fitted the foam to the one of them. The drives no longer transfers the vibrations to the case removing a lot of noise and they are still easy to take out for replacing.

ATI logo for Unreal Tournament 2003

I have recently, very recently actually, bought my first ATI card and when I found the ATI logo for use with UT2003 I couldn't help myself spreading the word. Fortunately I do not know who to credit for making the logo available but thx to who ever you are. Get the logo by clicking here (Sorry had to take it due to lack of webspace - mail me if you need it) and then simply unzip and replace the current one located in your UT2003\Textures folder.

My links (A BIG MESS!)

It used to be that my rig was a Celeron566@850 with a KyroII card so the rest of this page is about that configuration.

Easy way to set the refresh rate after installing new drivers.

I have made a small inf-file that lets me set the refresh rate for every normal resolution and colour depth with just a double click. That way the optimal refresh rate is allways used no matter what resolution and after installaing a new driver it's easy to get the perfect settings again. All that is needed is to update the file with the number installed drivers reached and then double-click the file.

Feel free to download this inf-file PerfectRefreshRate.inf (you may have to SHIFT-CLICK to download) but note that it is made for Windows 98 on a machine equiped with a Hercules Prophet 4500 (KyroII) card and a Sony GDM-F520 so you will proberly have to alter it slightly to fit your configuration. If you are not sure how to adapted the file then don't use it because mistakes may leave you with the need to re-install Windows or maybe even with a damaged monitor!

Note that this file also enables the card to run resolutions/refresh rates above the specs given by Hercules. For example it enables the 2048*1536 resolution and also 100 Hz in 1600*1200, if you view the inf-file with notepad or a similar program you can get further details.
