This report shows that the legal protection of digital music on the Internet lags behind the technical development. Even though the legal protection may not be worth much, the historical part shows that the problems associated with new technology in no way are new and that the problems before have been solved. The technic section of the report prepares the reader for an introduction to other music formats, where it is established that it will always be possible in some way or other to circumvent a format of its copyprotection. It is thus natural to look into business models for making money on music that has no copyprotection to it. Several models are treated all of them centering on the idea of making money on the assets of the music or having customers voluntarily pay for the music thereby enjoying some privileges.
