Ejler Bille studied from 1930 until 1932 at the School of Art and Industry
in Copenhagen, and 24 years old he together with among others Richard
Mortensen established the group of artists called Linien. Egill Jacobsen
became friend these years with both Ejler Bille and Richard Mortensen,
and the three had great influence on each others works of art.
In the years of war Ejler Bille establih connections to the group of artists
involved in the periodical Helhesten, and like most of the artists from
this group, he joined Cobra in 1948.
The tied-up, well-considered, surrealistic form are characteristic of
Ejler Billes works of art until 1938, where he, influenced by the paintings
of Egill Jacobsen and his own imaginative sculptures loosen his painted
compositions.
Triangles and cirkles replaces the tied-up lines, and becomes more and
more like ornaments in which his abstract figures are melted into.
Despite of the more lively form Ejler Bille gives his paintings, he often
brings back a calm harmony to his motifs by using soft and mainly light
colors.
