16 years old Pol Bury studied in 1938 for a short period of time at the
Art Academy in Mons, and during this time he became involved with the
group of Belgian surrealists. His painting in this period until 1945 was
very surrealistic but gradually they became more abstract in form and
more organic in motif.
In 1947 he joined the Belgian group Jeune Peinture Belge and as contacts
was created between this group and Cobra in 1949, both Pol Bury and Pierre
Alechinsky joined the new movement.
Pol Bury took part in many of the exhibitions of Cobra and he contributed
to the periodical Cobra with articles. Post-Cobra he stopped painting
and started experimenting with mobile sculptures and moving objects.
