Sonja Ferlov studied for a period at the School of Art and Industry, and
from 1932 until 1934 she studied at the Academy of Art in Copenhagen.
In the beginning she painted abstract but inspired by mainly Arp and Max
Ernst she started to form abstract-symbolic sculptures, and in 1935 she
debuted as sculptor at the Exhibition of Autumn.
In the middle of the thirties she joined the group of artsists called
Linien and exhibited with this group in 1937.
In 1936 she moved to Paris, and lived there for most of her life. In
Paris she met the south-african painter Ernest Mancoba, and during the
war, while Ernest Mancoba was interned they married.
After the war Sonja Ferlov and Ernest Mancoba moved shortly to Denmark,
adn in 1948 she joined Cobra. In 1952, after Cobra, they moved back to
Paris.
Besides Linien and Cobra, Sonja Ferlov exhibited at the danish Høst,
and from 1969 she was a member of another danish group htat once a year
exhibited at the danish Den Frie.
