Born in 1919 in Prague in Czechoslovakia. As a member of the Czechoslovakian
surrealistic group Ra, Joseph Istler got in contact with some of the Belgian
surrealists in 1947, and took active part in the congress of Surréalism
Révoltionaire in 1947.
His connection to Cobra was established at this congress where he met
some of the artists that were soon to found Cobra.
Exhibited at the last Cobra exhibition in Liège in 1951.
